About

The Great Green Garden

The Great Green Garden is a community led response to the environmental challenges facing us today.

We want to become more sustainable as a community, reduce our carbon footprint and build a more resilient system of food production for ourselves.

Local food growing is more important than ever and with waiting lists for allotments at an all time high, news ways of food growing need to be developed to respond to this demand.

The Great Green Garden aims to grow local food for local people. Food that is seasonal and fresh and that the community has had a hand in growing and preparing throughout the year.

We are reliant on help from our communities so our volunteers are vital.

We want to develop educational workshops and events and deliver health advice, guidance and information for people who wish to learn about food growing and eating more healthily.

For us, the most important thing is community. We want to reconnect with the land and share in our passion for self sufficiency.

The Great Green Garden is based at Holly Tree Farm Tithby, Nr Bingham, Nottinghamshire.

We are basing our organisation on the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model which is becoming more prevalent in the UK with established CSA's in many counties.

The Soil Association describes them as; 'Community supported agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between farmers and the local community, providing mutual benefits and reconnecting people to the land where their food is grown.'
